February 2009 Meeting
PANTONE® GOE System
We had a great turnout to this event. Print Production Managers, Traffic Managers, Art Directors, and Production Artists came from far and near to hear about the new PANTONE® GOE System.
Knowledgeable Bob Finch from PANTONE® opened the meeting with a brief history of how the original PANTONE® System came to be. He then introduced The GOE System, an exciting new color system which brings designers nearly twice as many spot, CMYK, and HTML color options as the original PANTONE® book, all created through mathematical formulas, using only eight base inks. Because of the inks used to create them, many of these colors are more obtainable on press than standard PMS colors, even with aqueous and UV coatings. Sounds like a designer’s dream!
New software, included with the system, was also demo’d, showing new ways to create color palettes and import them into popular design software. This handy software even shows how chosen colors will print in CMYK on a particular press! That way, you have the option to adjust color palettes early on to obtain intended colors for those clients that have a limited budget.
The chip books of the GOE System are also new and improved from the prior system. They are self-adhesive “stamps”, as you can remove them, then replace them on the page if you change your mind! This eliminates having collections of random, loose chips, resulting in buying replacement pages less often. The chip books also come with a “palette playground,” a clear, plastic page which can be used to arrange and view a palette of chips all together.
Lastly, Mr. Finch touched on the handy ColorMunki, a portable electronic gadget which calibrates a computer monitor to match a printer. So, no more making your design perfect on your monitor only to see it completely differently when printed out for clients to view.

Please note that Creative Suite 4 does not include the new GOE System color tables. A free download is available on the PANTONE® site, which will allow you to import the GOE System into CS4.
