APAOC
May 2009 Meeting

Facetime, not Facebook.
That about said it all.

Our May meeting, APAOC’s Career Council, featured business coaches, headhunters and a therapist – all available for one-on-one coaching. Our team of experts were stationed throughout the room, and gave helpful advice both to professionals within their current job roles and to job seekers: Follow some very simple but absolute rules about how to create your resume. Prospective employers review hundreds of resumes for the top jobs, and yours can be disqualified in the blink of an eye. We learned what to put first on our list, how to describe our achievements, and whether to send a cover letter.

“Be yourself” was a common piece of advice, as we tend to say what a prospective employer wants to hear. Remember, we are interviewing them as well. Dare to dream, and be very specific about your dream! Create a visual guide in your mind, and flesh it out in a collage or drawing that you can look at daily to reinforce your connection to what you are creating. Focus on what you want to do, where you want to go, and leave your thoughts about the past behind. Whatever you put your attention on will grow, so keep it on the things you want to see grow!

Lots more was covered, but you really had to be there to get it...
